A plaque to remember Manfredo Fanfani

On February 9, 2025, in Florence, the City of Florence commemorated Professor Manfredo Fanfani with the unveiling of a plaque at the Fanfani Institute, a historic local healthcare institution that he founded and led for decades.

The ceremony was attended by Mayor Sara Funaro and the President of the Regional Council of Tuscany, Stefania Saccardi, along with family members, numerous city officials, representatives from the medical-scientific community, long-time collaborators, and friends, all gathered to pay tribute to a figure who deeply shaped Florentine healthcare.

Fanfani, who passed away in 2020 at the age of 98, was remembered as a leading figure in 20th-century Italian private healthcare, capable of combining scientific rigor, entrepreneurial spirit, and great human compassion toward patients. His vocation was also born from his personal experience with a long illness during his youth, which helped shape his vision of medicine as more welcoming, attentive, and close to people.
